GET TO KNOW JVC

Hi, I’m James.

Mechanical engineer. Product designer. Hands-on maker.

I’m James Copley. My work spans mechanical design, manufacturing and physical prototypes. I like taking an idea far enough to understand how it fits, how it’s made and how it actually works — whether that’s a gearbox, a drone or a small personal object.

My fiancée is my best friend and my biggest fan. Her support means more to me than I can put into words. Away from engineering, I paint, make things, ride motorcycles, hunt and play Dungeons & Dragons. Fostering senior dogs is a big part of my life, too.

02 / BEYOND ENGINEERING

  • Senior dogs

I love fostering senior dogs and making a comfortable place for them to spend their later years. We also make Monte’s Steak Bites, named after our late, great dog Monte. We started making clean treats when he got sick and still make them for our dogs and others who want them.

  • Motorcycles & the outdoors

Riding motorcycles and hunting are two of my interests away from the workshop.

  • Paint, leather & small objects

I enjoy painting, leatherwork and jewelry design. Making things by hand is a part of my practice alongside CAD and engineering.

  • Drones & robotics

I’m interested in machines that do useful work, including utility drones for inspection and line stringing.

  • D&D & character design

I play an autognome wildfire druid named Null. Fantasy, character design and designer toys are part of my creative world, too.
